My Gallery Wall: A Start

One of the things that I’ve had on my list for a while is to create a gallery wall with all my favourite photos of our family.

I like the way the black frames with white mats unify the gallery. I am also a huge fan of black and white photography but for my wall kept the pictures in colour to add some kapow to the relatively neutral space. Kind of like this picture …

My poor little staircase previously looked like this:

And now … I smile at my boys every time I go upstairs!

There are still more to add but that’s for another day!

I am very pleased with what we’ve got so far! Hanging art in your home is what truly makes the space you.

Do you have a gallery wall in your home?

A Piece of Art … Just for Me!

It seems I spend so much of my time thinking about art for other people’s walls. This time I’ve chosen a pretty little piece just for me!

Let me introduce you to Posterjack –  an online Canadian company that allows you to transform your digital pictures into pieces of art. When the kind people at Posterjack contacted me to take one of their products for a test run I had a zillion ideas pop into my head of what picture to use.

I have been all about bright colours lately and in thinking about my recent post about Spring I knew I just had to use this picture:

The pink gerbera daisy just makes me happy (insert grin here). My mother would probably roll her eyes to hear me say I like pink but I think I’m having a reaction to living in a male dominated house!

There were a bunch of options to transform my picture. I could frame it or mount it, do an acrylic print, mount the photo on Birch wood or metal. Zoiks! So much choice.

I decided to go with a gallery wrapped canvas – made it feel like an original piece of art to me. Uploading my photo and ordering was super easy.

Still trying to figure out a special spot for “wee pink” but for now it’s being closely watched by my beloved Easter bunnies.

Posterjack’s prices are very reasonable and I got my canvas super fast. Be sure to check ’em out if you get a minute.

Photography that inspires me

The walls in our home are in need of a little oomph. Part of the reason for this is my paralysis when it comes to hammering holes to hang pictures. Yes, neurotic, I know but I have a thing about putting holes in the walls (likely because it’s about repairing them when I want to make a change!).

I’ve always loved original art and, in particular, photography. I’ve been looking around lately and thought I’d share with you some of the pieces that I’ve come across.

The following five pieces are by Toronto photographer, Steven Crainford. I love the bold pops of colour. Take a minute to check out his portfolio – it was hard to pick just a few!

I’m also struck by the sensuality of these images.

And intimacy of these images.

I am also considering photos of destinations I’d like to travel to … but that’s for another post.

What would you choose? What type of photography are you drawn to?
